SNAPDATE: Ebola virus numbers

Ebola virus disease (EVD) case numbers are very mobile at this stage.

But working with what we have, we can see from the graph below that there has been a small but steady increase in suspected and probable cases over the past 6 days of reporting.

The number of deaths due to EVD have not kept that pace and remain almost flat. The number of laboratory-confirmed cases of Ebola virus infection has not changed since the initial announcement of the outbreak.

Because most of the first 21 cases were fatal it seems likely that we will not get samples and thus test results to confirm Ebola virus as a cause. But we should start to see more suspect and probable cases either confirmed fro discarded in the coming day’s updates.
